Puppy KickStart Program
Did you just get a new puppy and dont know where to start in their training? Do you work long hours and potty training is proving to be difficult? Does your puppy bite, jump, or soil in the house? This is the program for YOU!
Why is Training a puppy SO important?
1. Socialization
-
Critical Development Period: Between 8 and 16 weeks of age, puppies are in a sensitive socialization window. Early training helps expose them to new environments, people, and other dogs in a positive way, which builds confidence and reduces the likelihood of fear-based reactivity or aggression later in life.
-
Prevents Fearful Behavior: Puppies that are not properly socialized may become fearful or reactive to unfamiliar situations, sounds, or people. Early training helps prevent these issues by teaching puppies how to navigate new experiences calmly and confidently.
2. Establishing Good Habits
-
Set Expectations Early: Puppies are like sponges and can quickly learn what is acceptable and what isn’t. By starting training early, you can prevent bad habits from developing, like jumping up, biting, or excessive barking.
-
Build Positive Associations: Early training helps your puppy learn that good behavior is rewarded, while undesirable behavior is ignored or redirected. Positive reinforcement during puppyhood helps form a lifelong pattern of good behavior.
Prevents Behavioral Problems
-
Address Issues Before They Become Problems: Puppies are still learning about boundaries and the world around them.
-
Helps With Puppy Energy: Puppies are full of energy, and if not channeled properly, they can become destructive or unable to settle. Training provides structure and an outlet for their energy, helping them develop into well-mannered adults.
5. Confidence and Mental Stimulation
-
Building Confidence: Early training builds your puppy’s confidence as they learn new skills and successfully navigate challenges. Confident dogs are less likely to become anxious or fearful in new situations.
-
Mental Exercise: Training is mentally stimulating, and puppies need mental exercise just as much as physical exercise. Keeping your puppy's mind engaged helps prevent boredom and frustration, leading to a better-behaved dog.
Lifelong Benefits
-
Long-Term Success: Early training sets the stage for a lifetime of good behavior. Puppies that are trained early are more likely to grow into well-behaved adults who are easier to live with and more enjoyable to take out in public.
-
Better Adaptability: Dogs that are properly trained as puppies are generally more adaptable to new situations, environments, and people, making them easier to manage in the long run.
